The Big Move

So those of you who have followed the blog, or who've known me for a while, know that I made some unsuccessful attempts to leave MWSU. And before I stopped writing I think I told you that I took on some additional responsibilities last year as the Acting Assistant Director. It was fun, I really enjoyed it. I had hoped that the position might become permanent. I actually broke my policy of not praying for silly things for myself and did some praying for it to work out. But it didn't. The powers that be decided to eliminate the position altogether. One would think I would start to take these things personally, however, it really wasn't about me. It actually screwed my boss over much harder than me. So I started applying for jobs again.

I saw the posting for an Area Director at Minnesota State University Moorhead and debated on whether to apply for it. I worked at Iowa State University for a year and a half, and I burned some bridges when I left. And one of my supervisors at ISU is now the Director of Housing at MSUM. But after talking with some folks, I decided to go ahead and throw my application out there. And then I forgot about them, until my boss told me about their reference check. And then they invited me to interview. The timing was perfect in that I was going to Minneapolis for a conference that same week, so I was able to combine the trips. I did have to miss my friend Kevin's wedding, which I'm still sad about. But I think he's forgiven me. He's still talking to me, at least :-)

So I interviewed and I really liked it, but I was still not too sure about working with my former boss. I didn't think much more about it, because I had a conference, and then we took some students to a conference in San Diego. And then on our last day of the conference in San Diego, I got offered the position. It took me by surprise. And it was really an offer I couldn't refuse. The power of prayer is really amazing--God didn't give me what I wanted. He did one better!

I had two weeks to wrap up and move. Crazy (although, not as crazy as two others who got hired over the summer...one had a week, and one had a weekend to move!) Luckily my boss was wonderful and was really excited for me (not excited for him, but he knew I needed to leave.) Thankfully I had already packed up all my stuff because my building was being renovated. It was still rough. And I could tell you all about it in detail, but it'd take too long, and I'm already having a hard time getting around to blogging again :-) But what is important is that as soon as I got here I knew I had made a great decision! LOVE it! I miss parts of MWSU and St. Joe, but I'm so much better here. It's awesome to really like where I am and what I am doing, I didn't realize how unhappy I was until I left.

I have another great story along the lines of the move, but I'm really tired so it'll have to come later. Maybe in another month or two at this rate! I'll try to make time sooner than that, though. You'll just have to live in suspense until then :-)

The MWSU  Student Maintenance crew. I couldn't have made the move without them! Literally!
