Finally!

Hah! You thought I got a job, didn't you? Well, I haven't. But I am finally getting time and a slight bit of energy enough to finish telling you all about last weekend and this past week. Actually, I think I was pretty much finished talking about last weekend. And I see I told you about poor Precious, and about the floods, and about Tiffany, so this one wont be so daunting as I thought it would be.

So in my blog before last, I mentioned I was in the Las Vegas airport. I'm breaking my rule here to tell you that on Sunday, as soon as I got back to St. Joe, I had enough time to feed the cat, repack my bags, then head to Reno for an interview. I won't talk about the interview, other than to say there are no fun stories to tell. However, I will tell you that I loved Reno itself, and if it wasn't so far away I'd move there in an instant, regardless of how I did on this interview. They have this great park downtown with literally a river running through it, that you can take kayacks on and you can go white water rafting on. Obviously, not huge white water rafting, but still, it's the closest I've ever seen to white water rafting water. From my view in my room, downtown looked like little Las Vegas. But when you actually go downtown, it's not really like Vegas at all. There are four or five big hotel/casinos, but that's it. There are a lot of artists spaces and works up and stuff, it's really cool. And it's right next to the mountains. Of course I didn't get to go to Lake Tahoe, but that's OK. It was fun anyway.

So on the way back, I had about an hour in the Las Vegas airport. With some time to spare, I stuck $5 in one of the slot machines. On my second play I won $50! In my current state of impending unemployment, I decided I can't risk $50. And I sent a text to a bunch of people, because I was excited. I never ever win! Yay for me!

Then I came back to work. I'll break another rule here. We were able to get one person to fill one of the two RHD positions open. So after hemming and hawing, I decided to swallow my pride and apply for my job, which I know I said I wasn't doing. To make it all equal and stuff they posted the job again on the website for me. So on Wednesday when I got back I interviewed with the Dean, trying to convince her that she should approve me. We did get one other application from the posting, a friend of the Associate Dean's. Yikes. So anyway, he interviewed on Thursday. No, I didn't get to sit in on that one :) Then I did the rest of my interview on Friday. It wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be. I think I did a good job. I had a big list of goals that I would like to get accomplished if I return. I'll find out early this week.

Then I came home on Friday so I could move again. When I moved, I moved into one of the apartments the new RHD's would move into. And the new person we hired is moving in next weekend. So I got to move up to the student apartment that I moved into when I first got here 4 1/2 years ago. Funny! Well, not funny, more like annoying and exhausting. But I got done with all the moving part yesterday and the cleaning today, so it wasn't too bad. And the place isn't bad either. It's just on the third floor, which is a pain for letting Tyler out. But he totally remembers where we are, it's funny! We used to go out the side exit to go out so we didn't have to walk through the lobby. We can't do that now because in the meantime we've made all those exits emergency exits with alarms on them. But he turns to go that way each time we go out. Midnight is liking it too, because we don't have a camp up here right now, so I've just been letting him get out and roam the floor. I've been letting Tyler off the leash too, but he pretty much sticks to me. Maybe I am the pack leader around here after all!

So on Friday Jen told me that she was going yard sale-ing on Saturday morning because there were a lot of neighborhood sales. And I thought, hey, that would be fun, so I tagged along. So at 7:30 AM we were scouting the places out. We only had 2 hours because Jen had something she had to do at 10, so we had to move fast. There wasn't much. We did find a great table and chair set for $30, but neither of us could figure out how we'd get it back to campus and where we'd put them.  The same was true of a couple of recliners for $10. But we did come across a small fake aquarium that is way more perfect for my "Life in a Fishbowl" presentations than what I've been using, and an inflatable "Smile" hammer, which is something I absolutely have to have for RA training. Even if I have nothing to do with RA training next year or ever again, I still have to have it. It was fun. I might go next weekend, even though Jen will be out of town...

My parents are coping well with being dog-less again. Actually, it's terrible to say, but it's actually not an entirely bad thing. It's so much easier for my Mom to take care of Gracie without Precious under foot. And my sister is having surgery this week and won't be able to use her right hand for absolutely anything for 8 weeks, so Mom will have to take care of Gracie a lot more than normal. So this is another example of everything happening for a reason. Mom is lonely at night without Gracie and after my Dad is in bed, but she'll get better soon enough.

So I've been going back and forth with the key office on campus all year about these rings of keys I checked out for Orientation. There were six rings, with 10 keys on each ring. And they have turned up missing. I swear I turned them in, but I also don't really remember doing it. You don't sign anything when you turn in keys, so there's no proof to my story. Anyway, I finally got out of them this past week that I owe them $600 for these keys. This would have been nice to know BEFORE I spent my stimulus check, assholes. But the Dean is trying to get it reduced to $300 for me. But if that doesn't work, I'll be hitting up everyone I know for $1. I've already gotten $7. Only $593 to go!
