My Random Goal

So I'm finally going to tell you what my random goal is. I wanted to get an article or something to add to the post, but I'll give you the website at the bottom. Every year since forever there is a bicycle ride across Iowa (RAGBRI--Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). Participants dip their front tires in the Missouri River, then ride their bikes for days until they dip their tires in the Mississippi River. It takes different routes every year. Ft. Madison has been the end point a few times in my memory. It's a big deal. Uncles Bob and Bruce have both participated either in full or in part of the Ride. It's not for the faint of heart. But it is kinda cool.

So I was home this year when the opening dip began, and I saw it on the news. I watched some campside interviews and stuff. So then a flash entered my head: I wanna go on RAGBRAI!

I have decided to live my life instead of just watching it go by, so when this thought hit my head, instead of dismissing it, I said, "Well, it could happen..." I haven't ridden a bike since Jr. High. I do not own a bike. I'm in horrible shape, and probably can't even fit on a standard bike. But there's no reason why I can't ride the stationary bikes in the Fitness Center to get a little used to the seat and stuff. I'm already getting back on the anti-fat wagon, so possibly by next summer I might be in shape enough to justify looking at buying some sort of bike.

I did use to love riding my bike when I was young. Heavens knows I love traveling and enjoying scenery. I have no desires to be one of those champion riders. I'll be one of the ones in the back moseying on through. And I certainly have no aspirations for doing this in the near future. It'll take a couple of years at least of riding a bike again to get up to the point of even joining for a day or two. And maybe by that point I won't want to do it anymore. But I'm holding on to the goal for now!
